''as it is, in its state'' - Tuna Pektaş

Visual researcher and curator Tuna Pektaş has been tracing the tracks of 'ordinary' lives spanning from 1920 to 1959 since 2017. Bringing together moments of daily life, Pektaş collects 'found' photographs, family albums, diaries, and pocket agendas from flea markets and bibliopoles. Lately, she has been accumulating not just the image itself but also the sentences found on the backside of photographs.

In her project titled "as it is, in its state" Pektaş utilizes the sentences from her collection, chosen from 7 found photographs, and transforms them into a series of etchings. Each plate is produced using soft ground technique. This work engages the audience by bringing together certain expressions recorded using the frequently preferred and recurring words of that period, such as "imagination" and "memory".

*"as it is, in its state" is a term commonly used by bibliopoles and sellers to provide information about the condition of the photograph found.
